Origins
The masia was built around the year 1584, at a time when defence was not an all-important issue and buildings could be safely constructed on smooth terrains that were easily accessible by horse or carriage-unlike the early castles that had to be perched high up on the rocks, such as the Besora Castle.
Profiting from the surrounding meadows and woodland, the estate's inhabitants engage in forest and cattle-raising activities.
As other masias in the vicinity, Pla de Besora bears witness to the different periods in which it was remodelled and expanded, the oldest section serving as the central body to which newer rooms and sheds were appended.
Long ago, on several occasions and throughout many years, this manor house was used as a hiding-place by the Carlins, who took refuge inside a door-less, windowless room connected with the tenant's bedroom.
